When I talk to other spouses about renting a home most of them recommend AHRN.com a government run Real Estate referral website or military members.
This website has become one of the major resource for renting/buying or selling homes of military members. It’s free, it’s fairly user friendly (yes , I would like to see some changes but compared to other military websites: Kudos to the developers), it has a high visibility among other military members, which helps when you are trying to solve your housing issues. Military families and their particular circumstances have been interesting to TV for awhile now. The show ‘Army Wives’ has probably done its share to shed some more or less realistic light on military life and it’s dynamics. In the first half of this year there was Lifestyle’s “Coming Home” -and then shortly after that Billy Ray Cyrus took the chance of surprising families of deployed military members with “Surprise Homecoming” on TLC. Yesterday I asked fellow military spouses on Facebook where they were when they saw or heard the news on the attack of 9/11. Some of the spouses where in 8th, 7th or even 5th grade on September 11th, 2001 like
Helen : ‎5th grade. We watched the towers fall.
Yashira: in 8th grade!
Some of you were overseas, bonding with any one or anything American that was near. [Read more...]
Yes, you’ve heard right! You can tell the government what apps you’ve always wanted. Currently, there are more than 50 apps on the USA.gov website. Some of them are, um, not so ‘interesting’ like this one:
A little while ago, I received an email from DECA requesting my opinion and suggestions on the commissary. While I am really glad that we have the commissary there are definitely some things that could use some improvements. A friend and and I dreamed up what a better commissary could look like:
Inc./Joining Forces is calling all Military Entrepreneurs
I know, this does NOT have directly something to do with moving itself . However, establishing yourself AND a business in the military world where nothing is for sure and everything is changing. These days the internet enables you to develop a business from your own home, even if that is moving all over the country OR even the world. This is an integral part of the military spouse’s independence, contributing to the family’s finances and increas her (or his self worth). I am enthused that the internet as opened opportunity for military spouses that did not exist previously.
To increase your entrepreneurial success make sure tht you sign up for the entrepreneur fair sponsored by INC Magazine. This fair is NOT limited to military spouse, but is open also to veterans or active duty service members. You HAVE to submit an applications by August 26, 2011.
All accepted applications will be notified on or around September 6, 2011. If selected, chosen applicants will receive further information regarding event details and their participation.  The Inc./Joining Forces Entrepreneurs Mentoring Fair is free to attend. Participants are responsible for all travel related cost in attending the mentoring fair and/or the conference. If you don’t live close to a commissary, every once in a while the commissary will come to you. “The On Site Sales”. The sales are for all valid ID Card holders, regardless of which branch, rank, status. It is a great opportunity to stock up on goods at great prices.
“Sale items may include paper products, soap and cleaning products, canned goods, sodas, sport drinks, water, meats, laundry detergents, and a variety of other products at a savings of 30 percent or more!” (Water???)
If in your town there is a Guard/Reserve unit that has at least 150 members assigned to it you can request an On Site sale through the closest base/post commissary. Contact them and discuss the possibility to bring the On Site sale to your town.
